A classmate of ours passed away on Wednesday, December 29. Susan Jefferson Clarke, born Sept.19, 1946 (known to me since age six or before as Susie) passed away in Louisville, Kentucky.
We were fortunate to visit with her at our last class reunion. Susan had several strokes and one that caused a heart attack.
Susan graduated from Transylvania College in Lexington with a degree in English and subsequently obtained a masters degree in education from Morehead State University. Susan taught high schoo English at Mason County High School and also was the faculty adviser of the school newspaper.
She served as communications director for the Academy of Medicine in Cincinnati, and later the Greater Louisville Medical Society. In both positions, she produced award winning publications in medical journalism and always strove for excellence. She retired as a marketing and communications director.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert H. Jefferson and her mother, Mildred Hutchison Jefferson.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Correll; a grandson, Zachary Correll; brothers, Jack Jefferson (Donna) of Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Edward Jefferson (Karen) of Westlake Village, Calif. and Jerry Jefferson (Barbara) of Mason County; an uncle, Glenn Hutchison; aunts Nolean Parker, Ruth Brown and Barbara Helphenstein, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Details of the service for Susan are as follows:
Saturday, January 8 at Knox, Brothers Funeral Home @ 625 East Second Street, Maysville.
Visitation will be at 12:00 noon with the service at 1:00p.m.
A reception will follow at the home of Jerry Jefferson at 3294 Tuckahoe Road, Maysville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Susan can be sent to Highland Community Center Senior Services, c/o Mary Charnes, 2000 Douglas Blvd., Louisville, Kentucky 40205
